LIZ shapiro

MS, OTR/L, CHT

"As a hand therapist, I have the privilege of helping people regain the use of one of their most important tools — their hands. Whether it's recovering from injury, surgery, or chronic conditions, hand therapy is about restoring function, confidence, and the ability to return to the things you love."

About LIZ

Liz graduated from Springfield College, earning both her Bachelor’s in Health Sciences (2018) and Master’s in Occupational Therapy (2019). She began developing her career in hand therapy during her clinical rotations at Brown University-affiliated clinics, which sparked her passion for upper extremity rehabilitation and her goal of becoming a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT).

After completing her education, Liz and her husband relocated to New Hampshire in early 2020, where she began her career at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. There, she worked on the trauma floor, COVID unit, and served as the primary occupational therapist for the pediatric ICU and step-down units. When the opportunity arose to transfer to the outpatient hand clinic, Liz eagerly accepted. In this role, she worked alongside seasoned hand therapists and collaborated closely with the leading hand surgeons and their fellow residents.

In June 2024, Liz earned her CHT certification before returning to her Maine roots later that summer.

Her clinical interests include custom orthotic fabrication, trauma, repetitive stress injuries, fractures, tendon repairs, and elective procedures. Liz finds great fulfillment in helping patients regain function and return to their daily routines and meaningful activities.

A native of Maine, Liz lives in Cumberland with her husband, daughter, and their dog, Zarah. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, tackling house projects, skiing, hiking, and exploring the vibrant food scene in the greater Portland area.
