What is Biofeedback?

Biofeedback is a safe and effective method of creating new postural habits for long term health and comfort using information from your own body.  Biofeedback, when provided in a therapeutic setting with specialists in upper body rehabilitation, provides the bridge from injury to full function.   Full function for the long term!  Biofeedback equips each person with physiological awareness for success, for pain reduction that lasts…Biofeedback helps people help themselves!

How does biofeedback work?

Similar to a blood pressure device or EKG, a surface EMG biofeedback instrument reads physiological information and translates it into visual or auditory information.  One simple example of how this may be used in a therapy session involves monitoring neck muscles during sitting, standing, writing, or typing.  The muscle tension level is displayed on a computer screen and techniques for decreasing the tension while performing the activity are easily learned.
